Kate Conklin, Pamunkey Regional Library System (West Point Branch)
I have to admit that I cringed when I saw that a magician would be among the performers at our library's annual summer reading program.  Any magicians I have seen in the past have been amateurish and unoriginal.  Frankly, I wasn't expecting a lot.  However, Joseph Young is just a magician in the same sense that Emeril is just a cook; in other words, he has to be one of the best magicians in the country!  Despite the fact that I was with him as he set up his props and readied his act, his sleight of hand was such that I was surprised and delighted with each new trick!  And I wasn't the only one - the adults and children in the audience were absolutely spellbound.  To his credit, he even attracted and held the attention of the town's teenagers, a demographic not easily impressed.  Not only was his magic mind-boggling, but Joseph is also a really funny guy and a positive role model; we librarians appreciated the emphasis he put on "The Magic of Reading."  No one should pass up an opportunity to see him perform - and to try to figure out how the heck he manages to get that twenty dollar bill into the kiwi!”

Rebecca Hall, Kingsport Public Library
“WOW! I stayed amazed along with the youngest child to the grandparents in the audience. Working in a library, I was particularly impressed and appreciated the Bob the Bookworm act and the message of there’s Magic in Reading.”

Catherine Myzie, Washington County Public Library Children's Department
"We were mesmerized and DAZZLED by Joseph Young's performance!  We highly recommend him for
elementary and preschool audiences as well as family groups!  His fast paced, polished sleights of hand
kept us all guessing!  He was worth every cent!"

Donna Horton, Speedwell Primary School, Speedwell, VA
"Thank you so much for a wonderful program.  You really captivated the interest of the children and adults.  Bob the Bookworm was funny and informative."

Betty Cobb, Johnson City Public Library, Johnston City, TN
"Everyone loved your performances and had a great time. Sharing with the children how you learned magic from books really helps us make our point that books open many doors for readers.  Thank you for sharing your marvelous ability with us!"

Demetria Tucker, Coordinator of Youth Services, Roanoke Public Library System
"Joseph Young is truly one of the most talented magicians in Southwest Virginia! His "Magic of Reading" act is not only entertaining but it encourages the joy and importance of reading."

Amy Jo Pruitt, Youth Services Librarian at Smyth-Bland Regional Library

Brenda Gray, Russell Country Public Library
"I was greatly impressed with the show you did for the Russell County Public Library summer reading program.  The packed audience agreed that you were "the best".

Miss Gail, Children's Programmer at J. Fred Matthew's Memorial Library
"The performance given by Joseph Young, before a mixed audience of adults and children, was not only entertaining but captivating. The involvement of the audience kept them intrigued with the talents of this young man. He is a talented magician with personality and charisma. To see before your eyes a porcelain vase disappear, a $20 bill disappear and wind up in a lemon, and the many variety of tricks bewildered the young eyes that observed his exhibition. It was a magical night of entertainment."

Gloria Dye, Children's Programmer at Lee Country Public Library
"Joseph Young was enjoyed by all at the Lee Country Public Library.  He kept the young and old both spell bound with his artful magic performance.  We look forward to having him back next year."
